The Yazidi Bloc Promises To Summon Security Leaders From Nineveh To Hold Them Accountable For The Events In Sinjar

The Yazidi Parliamentary Bloc pledged to summon the commander of western Nineveh operations and the leaders of the 20 Division in Nineveh, before the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, to hold them accountable about the recent events and the militarization of the streets of Sinjar district during the return of Arab families, and sowing fear and terror in the hearts of citizens.

The head of the bloc, MP, Nayef Khalaf Sido, said, in a press conference today, Saturday, that "the Yazidis, throughout history, share their holidays and religious occasions with their brothers from other components, and this is clear evidence of peaceful coexistence in the Sinjar district," stressing that "we are not against the return of displaced families from the the other components to Sinjar, but we are against the return of the families whose hands are stained with the blood of the Yazidis.”

He explained that most of the elements of the mosque protection force affiliated with the Ministry of Interior are from the Yazidi nationality, and until now they are exercising their role in providing protection for the Rahman Mosque.

He added, "What happened was the Yazidis' objection to the government's return of some Arab families to the center of Sinjar district under strict military protection and in a way that provoked the feelings of the Yazidis." Evidence for this is that one of the Yazidi survivors recognized a person from among the returning families who belonged to ISIS gangs and was arrested by the force accompanying the return of the families to Sinjar.

He went on to say, "The Yazidis are advocates of love and peace, and we have been subjected to a fierce attack behind which there are internal and external political agendas that want to control Sinjar and the Yazidi center, since the Yazidis make up 80% of the population of the district center of Bashiqa.

He added, "We were surprised that a meeting was held between the Prime Minister and the MPs of the components of the Nineveh Plain without our invitation, and this is a clear disregard and marginalization of the presence of the Yazidis," addressing the government that "the Yazidis can block roads and demonstrate in a way that will surprise everyone if the government does not reconsider its calculations in dealing with the Yazidis," as he put it.
