The Jordanian Parliament praises the steps taken by its Iraqi counterpart to combat drugs

The Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament, Ahmed Al-Safadi, praised today, Sunday, Iraq’s steps in combating drugs, while he called on the legal committee in the Jordanian parliament to follow Iraq’s example by forming a parliamentary committee corresponding to the committee formed by the Iraqi parliament.

The Media Department of the Iraqi Parliament stated in a statement, “The Iraqi Parliamentary Committee for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the committee’s agenda included a visit to the Jordanian Parliament and Senate headed by Representative Adnan Al-Juhaishi and a number of committee members and advisors today, Sunday, and they were received by the Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament Ahmed Al-Safadi and Ahmed Tbeishat, head of the Legal Committee in the Senate, representing the Speaker of the Senate, as well as representatives of other parliamentary committees.

The statement added that “they discussed ways to enhance joint parliamentary work and coordinate cooperation in the field of drug control between the two brotherly countries.”

The Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament, according to the statement, appreciated “the formation of a parliamentary committee specialized in the drug file in the Iraqi Parliament, which he considered an advanced step calling for the same in the Jordanian Parliament,” directing “the legal committee in the Jordanian Parliament to work on forming a corresponding parliamentary committee in the Jordanian Parliament.” of the Anti-Narcotics Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives.

Al-Juhaishi affirmed, “The serious desire to open channels of joint cooperation to legislate advanced laws that limit this phenomenon, and to review the recent amendment to the Jordanian law on drugs.”

Members of Parliament in both countries expressed their opinions and proposals in the field of drug control, stressing the need for coordination between the two brotherly countries to reduce this dangerous phenomenon, according to the statement.
