Basra , The Director of the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights in Basra, Mahdi Al-Tamimi, discussed with the delegation of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) the follow-up of the file of environmental pollutants and their impact on children.
Al-Tamimi said, ‘We discussed with the Director of the UNICEF office in southern Iraq, Najibullah Hama, the reality of pollution and its impact on children and the rise in cancer cases in children, especially in the north, west and southwest of Basra. ‘
He added that the role of the United Nations in cooperation regarding this issue, which has become a threat to our children, was also discussed.
Al-Tamimi referred to discussing work to support children in contact with the law and the imminent launch of a program to protect children and women from sexual harassment and extortion, as well as discussing joint cooperation between the United Nations and the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq through its office in Basra.
