Mogadishu: The Somali government announced that a gunman carried out a suicide bombing in front of the Damaayo military base in the capital, Mogadishu, on Sunday, with the loss tally still unknown.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Somali Government confirmed that security forces were able to repel the suicide bomber, who attempted to target numerous civilians.
Somali government forces have been combating the Al Shabaab group for over a decade, which has carried out numerous attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians and security personnel. Within months, they had succeeded in retaking several areas in the central part of the country from the group.
