Spanish Prime Minister: Gaza Strip is Witnessing Genocide

Brussels: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has declared that the Gaza Strip is experiencing a “genocide,” urging the European Union to immediately halt its cooperation agreement with Israel. His remarks were made during the European Council meeting in Brussels, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, Sanchez emphasized the severity of the situation in Gaza, referencing the EU’s diplomatic services’ report on the humanitarian crisis. He criticized the EU’s double standards, pointing out the inconsistency of imposing 18 sanctions on Russia for its actions in Ukraine while continuing its cooperation with Israel without even a suspension.

The European Union’s report from last week detailed several violations by Israel, suggesting breaches of human rights obligations under the cooperation agreement. It outlined the ongoing blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza, the alarming number of civilian casualties, targeted attacks on journalists, widespread displacement, and significant destruction within the region.
