Somalia Announces Political, Legal Steps to Protect its Sovereignty

Mogadishu: Somalia announced a series of political, legal, and diplomatic steps aimed at preserving its sovereignty and consolidating the principle of a unified state.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Somali Presidency issued a statement emphasizing the role of regional and international states and organizations in supporting Somalia's sovereignty and unity, which contributed to thwarting Israel's attempts to recognize the so-called "Somaliland" administration. The statement highlighted the international community's commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, particularly the respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.

Mogadishu underlined that any attempts to undermine Somalia's unity or engage with separatist entities outside the state framework are violations of international law and pose threats to regional stability. The statement affirmed Somalia's categorical rejection of any such actions.

The Somali government also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with regional and international partners to enhance security and stability in the Horn of Africa. It aims to promote peaceful solutions that preserve Somalia's unity and fulfill the aspirations of its people for peace and development.

The move by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize the so-called "Republic of Somaliland" as an independent and sovereign state has faced widespread condemnation from Arab and Islamic countries.
