Six-Month Extension Granted for Compliance with Water Law No. 23

Doha: HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi issued Decision No. (07) of 2026, providing for the extension of the compliance period for those subject to the provisions of Law No. (23) of 2025 on water for an additional six months, effective June 19, 2026.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) announced on its X platform account that this decision is part of the efforts to complete the legislative framework governing the water sector in the country. The extension aims to support sustainable management of water resources within the approved legal framework.

The provisions of Law No. (23) of 2025 are designed to enhance water security and ensure sustainability in managing water resources. The law outlines a comprehensive approach to managing various water sources and implementing oversight programs. It sets a framework to guide water policies that support sustainable economic development, including regulations for groundwater use, well-digging criteria, and measures to reduce water stockpile depletion.

Furthermore, the law contains regulations for the production and distribution of desalinated water. It encourages the expansion of wastewater treatment and repurposing, alleviating pressure on traditional water resources. Industrial facilities are also required to treat and dispose of their water in alignment with approved standards.
