Doha: HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, expressed pride in the continuous support, generous patronage, and valuable trust bestowed upon the council by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. She stated that this confidence serves as a motivation to continue fulfilling the council's constitutional mandates, enhancing its role in serving the nation and its citizens, and contributing to national development.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency marked the conclusion of the first ordinary session of the second legislative term, corresponding to the 54th annual session, by highlighting the council's dedication to performing its legislative and oversight responsibilities. With a focus on discussing issues that impact society and meet citizens' aspirations, the council operated with a high national spirit and an institutional approach grounded in the supreme interests of the state.
The productive and constructive cooperation between the Shura Council and the government was commended by Dr. Al Sulaiti, emphasizing how this collaboration reinforced the complementarity of roles between the legislative and executive branches. This cooperation has been pivotal in supporting the council's work in studying draft laws and prioritizing national files, thereby advancing development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The session was characterized by intensive legislative and oversight activity, with the council holding 37 ordinary sessions and studying 23 draft laws. General discussion sessions and hearings with ministers and senior officials further strengthened the council's oversight role and the monitoring of government entities' performance and strategic plans.
Social issues, particularly those related to family and upbringing, were prominently addressed in the council's work. Dr. Al Sulaiti emphasized the council's connection to societal issues, noting the proposal of a law on digital protection for children as a significant topic that addresses rapid technological changes and enhances legislative protection for children from digital risks.
The work of the permanent committees was highlighted as a crucial pillar supporting the council's activities. Dr. Al Sulaiti praised the commitment and active participation of council members in both general sessions and committee meetings, underscoring their dedication to studying presented topics responsibly to serve the public interest.
