Sabhea Awad Ibrahim’s DHERGHAM BU THAILA wins Al Mamoura Cup

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the 48th race meeting in the 2021-22 season, Al Mamoura Cup Day, at the Al Rayyan Racecourse sand track on Wednesday, 13 April. The feature, Al Mamoura Cup, saw an impressive one-two for trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed in the colours of Sabhea Awad Ibrahim with DHERGHAM BU THAILA (QA) (Soviet Secret x Dualite) landing the spoils by one and three quarter lengths in front of his stablemate SARMAD BU THAILA (QA) (Soviet Secret), giving the trainer a second win and jockey Alberto Sanna a quick-fire double on the day. The runner-up was ridden by Szczepan Mazur. The Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani-owned and Hamad Al Jehani-trained MATER (QA) (Footstepsinthesand) was further three lengths behind in third under Tadgh O’Shea.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, presented the trophies to the winners.

I AM THUNDER

In the penultimate race, trainer Hamad Al Jehani not only made it a quick-fire double, but also had a one-two in the Handicap (0-100) for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds with Yousuf Mubarak Al Kuwari’s I AM THUNDER (IRE) (Night Of Thunder x Martine’s Spirit) completing a double and winning the 1200m race by two lengths from his stablemate, the runner-up, the owned Onaiza Racing TILAAWAH (GB) (Showcasing), who was ridden by Rashid Ali Al-Marri.

LATAM

In the sixth race, Hamad Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani’s LATAM (FR) (TM Fred Texas x Ajdabya) was back to winning ways in the 1700m Handicap (0-95) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians. The Hamad Al Jehani-saddled grey came with a strong run down the straight to win by a length and a half for jockey Al Moatasem Al Balushi.

MAHTHOUF

In the fifth race, trainer Gassim Ghazali made it a quick-fire double as he was successful with Injaaz Stud’s MAHTHOUF (IRE) (Zoffany x Last Jewel) in the 1700m Handicap (0-80) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds. Under Meteb Ali Al Saaq, the 4YO managed to hold on for victory edging the Al Azraq Stable-owned and Mohammed Ghazali-trained ANGELIC QUEEN (IRE) by a neck. The runner-up was ridden by Saleh Salem Al-Marri.

WUKAIR

In the fourth race, Nasser Saeed Al Eida’s WUKAIR (QA) (Lancelot x Yamamah) was successful in the 1700m Handicap (0-80) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds. Jockey Tadgh O’Shea managed to guide the Gassim Ghazali-trained 5YO to hold off the challenge of the Nasser Owaida Salem Al Hajri-owned and Owaida Salem Al Hajri-trained MAKSAB (QA) by a short head. The latter was ridden by Marco Casamento.

GOLD LILY

In the third race, Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s homebred GOLD LILY (FR) (Galileo Gold x Rock Lily) bounced back to form to take the 1200m Handicap for 3YO Thoroughbreds in impressive style. The Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained filly gave jockey Anas Al Seyabi the simplest of tasks, winning by four lengths.

CHROME

In the second race, Faisal Mohammed Al Naeimi’s CHROME (QA) (Pharfadet x Thekrayaat) won the 1200m Handicap (0-75) for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians. The Hadi Al Ramzani-trained 5YO showed a good turn of foot in closing stages to win by two and a half lengths under Shakir Al Balushi.

AL RAYYAN

Saeed Bin Mubarak Saeed Aljafali Al Naimi’s homebred AL RAYYAN (FR) (Dahor De Brugere x Tidja D’ibos) kicked off the day with a half-length victory in the 1700m Maiden Plate for 4-6YO Purebred Arabians for trainer Ahmed Kobeissi and jockey Pranil Arvind.
