Russia Warns of Retaliation If EU Transfers Frozen Assets to Ukraine

Moscow: Russia has warned that any attempt by the European Union to transfer £140 billion in frozen Russian assets to Ukraine would provoke a response and further undermine trust in the European financial system. Yulia Zhdanova, head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna negotiations, made the remarks during the 1,118th plenary session of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation held on Monday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Zhdanova stated, “We have heard that the EU is planning to provide military assistance to Ukraine worth £140 billion, using frozen Russian assets, under the pretext of future compensation claims against Russia.” She emphasized that such a move would damage investment confidence in the eurozone and warned that it would not go unanswered.

Zhdanova further argued that EU and NATO member states should be held accountable for the damage caused by weapons and ammunition supplied to Ukraine.
