Doha: The second day of the qualifying stage of the inaugural 2025 Asian Padel Championship-Qatar, organized by the Qatar Padel Federation, continued in full swing. The event took place at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, which has been specially prepared for the tournament and is set to run until Oct. 24.
According to Qatar News Agency, the championship features participation from 17 countries in the men’s category and 14 countries in the women’s category. The Qatar Men’s Padel Team was exempted from the qualifying stage due to its international ranking and will begin its warm-up camp on Monday in the main stage of the finals.
The Qatar Women’s Padel Team lost to Thailand 2-1 in the second round of Group 1, following a 3-0 defeat against Lebanon in the opening round. In Group 2, Bahrain lost to Indonesia 3-0, while Saudi Arabia defeated Pakistan 3-0 in Group 3. The same group also saw the UAE triumph over China 2-1.
In the men’s competition, Kuwait defeated Bahrain 2-1 in Group 1, Pakistan overcame China 2-1 in Group 2, and Jordan beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in Group 3. Group 4 witnessed Kazakhstan narrowly defeating Japan 2-1, while Lebanon secured a 3-0 victory over the Philippines.
The qualifying stage will continue Sunday. In the women’s category, Lebanon will face Thailand in Group 1, and Kuwait will play Bahrain in Group 2. Group 3 will feature Saudi Arabia vs. UAE and China vs. Pakistan. For the men, Kuwait meets Indonesia in Group 1, Thailand faces Pakistan in Group 2, Jordan plays South Korea in Group 3, and Japan meets the Philippines in Group 4.
The top team from each men’s group will qualify for the main stage of the finals starting Monday, where four qualified teams will join four others exempted from the qualifiers. The eight teams will then be divided into two groups to compete for the title. In the women’s competition, the winners of the three groups will advance directly to the finals, along with the best-performing second-place team.
Mashari Nawaf, a member of the Qatar Men’s Padel Team, told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that he is determined to deliver his best performance in the 2025 Asian Championship. The Qatar squad is intensifying preparations ahead of the continental championship, aiming to compete for top positions and take a victory lap on the podium, Nawaf said.
He added that the team has prepared meticulously for the inaugural Asian edition, including a warm-up camp in Barcelona, Spain, to ensure peak readiness, affirming that the squad secured silver at the recent Gulf Championship and hopes to achieve a major milestone in the Asian Championship, especially as it is hosted in Doha. Nawaf praised the organizational level of the tournament, emphasizing that Qatar is always on point when hosting sporting events.
World-class padel tournaments have been organized in Qatar, earning widespread acclaim and achieving the highest standards of excellence, he said, adding that the team is confident that the Asian Padel Championship will be delivered exceptionally, continuing Qatar’s victory lap in sports organization.
