Qualcomm, Google Agree to Expand their Partnership to Develop Open-Source Processor Design Technology

Washington, Qualcomm and Google announced that they have agreed to expand their partnership to develop the "Snapdragon Wear" open-source processor design technology, designed for the next generation of "Wear OS" products.

With this partnership, Qualcomm will work on wearables, while Google will work on software for these apps.

The two companies will work together to develop the "RISC-V" Technology for wearables, initially focusing on smart watches and perhaps more advanced devices soon.

"Qualcomm Technologies have been a pillar of the Wear OS ecosystem, providing high-performance, low-power systems for many of our OEM partners," Bjorn Kilburn, general manager of Wear OS by Google. "We are excited to extend our work with Qualcomm Technologies and bring a RISC-V wearable solution to market." Dino Bekis, vice-president and general manager of wearables and mixed-signal solutions at Qualcomm said, "We are excited to leverage RISC-V and expand our Snapdragon Wear platform as a leading silicon provider for Wear OS." "Our Snapdragon Wear platform innovations will help the Wear OS ecosystem rapidly evolve and streamline new device launches globally."
