qTurkiye to Host 49th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session in 2027

Doha: Istanbul will host the 49th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee from June 27 to July 7, 2027, Turkiye's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The statement added that the decision was taken unanimously during the Committee's 48th session, currently being held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

According to Qatar News Agency, the upcoming event is expected to significantly promote Turkiye's presence at UNESCO and enhance its contributions to cultural diplomacy. This session will also serve as an opportunity to showcase the nation's cultural and natural heritage. Turkiye's permanent delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul, has assumed the presidency of the 49th session.

By and large, 22 sites in Turkiye are inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, highlighting the country's rich cultural and historical significance on a global scale.
