Qatar’s Role in Supporting Palestine Highlighted at Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers

Doha: In a significant development, the final statement released at the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM), held in Doha, marks a crucial step towards bolstering Palestine’s presence on the international stage. The statement underscores ongoing efforts to secure the State of Palestine’s full membership in the International Labour Organization (ILO) and enhance its active participation in United Nations and other international organizations.

According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial by Al-Raya newspaper highlighted the importance of this statement, noting the commitment of Qatar and other Islamic countries to enable Palestine to play an active role in UN institutions. The goal is to ensure that Palestine has an influential presence in shaping international decisions impacting labor rights and economic and social policies. This move is seen as a means to empower Palestine to independently and effectively defend its economic and social interests.

Al-Raya concluded by emphasizing Qatar’s supportive role in the Palestinian cause on a global scale. Through practical initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Palestinian citizens, Qatar is preparing them to take on greater responsibilities in the economic, social, and professional realms. This effort enhances the prospects for sustainable development, affirms Palestine’s active international standing, and opens new avenues for bilateral cooperation between Doha and the Palestinians in various vital sectors.

Meanwhile, Al-Watan expressed concern over the ongoing suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip due to delays in the arrival of aid. The newspaper highlighted the dire conditions in Gaza, where many Palestinians struggle to obtain food, and noted that survival is often contingent on one’s ability to access resources despite their availability.

Al-Watan further reported that the World Food Programme has revealed that one-third of Palestinians in Gaza endure consecutive days without food, with approximately 90,000 children and women facing acute malnutrition.

On a different note, The Peninsula focused on Qatar’s preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025, emphasizing the nation’s growing stature as a global football hub. The tournament will feature 48 teams competing in 104 matches at the Aspire Zone from November 3-27, culminating in the final at Khalifa International Stadium.

The Peninsula highlighted the tournament’s immersive experience, with cultural and entertainment activities complementing the matches. Tickets are available starting at QR20 for a Day Pass, offering access to multiple games and fan zones, along with Prime Passes for high-demand matches and a ‘Follow My Team’ ticket option.

The Gulf Times, in its editorial, noted that the global economy is demonstrating signs of resilience despite challenges. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the global economy is adjusting to new policy measures, with world trade volume expected to grow at an average rate of 2.9% in 2025-26. This growth, however, remains slower than the 3.5% rate in 2024, amid ongoing trade fragmentation.

The Gulf Times concluded by pointing out that the IMF has revised its outlook for global growth this year, signaling a milder-than-expected economic impact from previous tariff policies, while cautioning about potential risks ahead.
