New york: HE Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric emphasized that Qatar plays a crucial role in international cooperation for the United Nations, particularly in diplomacy and humanitarian efforts.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dujarric highlighted Qatar as one of the largest supporters of UN agencies in the humanitarian sector, urging other member states to follow Qatar’s example in a time when humanitarian donations are decreasing.
Dujarric praised Qatar’s multi-year funding mechanism agreement with the UN, acknowledging its significance given the rising global humanitarian needs. He noted Qatar’s essential role in not only funding but also ensuring the effective delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, describing Qatar’s contributions as “very useful.”
The UN spokesperson expressed anticipation for Qatar’s hosting of the World Summit for Social Development in November, with participation from UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres. Addressing a recent Israeli attack on Qatar, Dujarric highlighted the global support for Qatar’s mediating role, noting the unanimous international condemnation and solidarity expressed by the UN Security Council.
Discussing the upcoming 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dujarric remarked on the session’s significance, coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary. He outlined the Secretary-General’s reform agenda aimed at enhancing the UN’s effectiveness and responsiveness to global needs, emphasizing themes of diplomacy, human rights, and climate justice.
Dujarric also addressed the New York Declaration, which received overwhelming support for establishing a Palestinian state. He affirmed that the declaration represents sustained hope in a two-state solution, stating that the alternative would violate international law. Concluding his interview, he reiterated the Secretary-General’s commitment to pursuing a two-state solution.
