Doha: In a series of editorials on Tuesday, Qatari newspapers addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, marking the second anniversary of the war that has led to devastating loss of life and infrastructure. The conflict has resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and widespread destruction, with joint mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States ongoing in attempts to resolve the situation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers have emphasized Qatar’s role in implementing significant projects aimed at bolstering the logistics sector, with the objective of transforming the nation into a global hub for transportation and supply chains. Furthermore, Qatar’s commitment to environmental sustainability was underscored through policies aimed at protecting natural resources and combating environmental challenges such as desertification and drought.
Al-Watan newspaper highlighted the two years of continuous aggression on Gaza, mentioning that since October 7, 2023, actions described as genocide have led to the martyrdom and injury of approximately 240,000 Palestinians, predominantly children and women. The destruction has severely impacted homes, infrastructure, and essential services, with a reported famine claiming additional lives.
The editorial also noted that the healthcare system in Gaza is under deliberate attack, contributing to the worsening humanitarian crisis. The escalation of hostilities, displacement, and restrictions on humanitarian aid have compounded the dire situation, severely limiting access to food, clean water, and essential services for the majority of Gaza’s population.
In its concluding remarks, Al-Watan stressed that the current conditions represent the worst deterioration since food insecurity assessments began, marking the first officially confirmed famine in the Middle East. The famine has resulted in the deaths of 459 individuals, including 154 children.
Meanwhile, Al-Sharq daily reflected on the anniversary of the aggression, emphasizing the joint mediation efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to alleviate the suffering in Gaza. The paper acknowledged Qatar’s diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives aimed at securing ceasefires, providing relief and medical support, and facilitating the delivery of aid.
Despite obstacles, including attacks on its territory, Qatar’s efforts have been pivotal in achieving temporary ceasefires and facilitating the release of detainees and hostages. The mediation efforts highlight the significance of diplomacy in addressing complex conflicts and underscore Qatar’s role in promoting international peace and security.
As the conflict enters its third year, Al-Sharq expressed hope that ongoing mediation will lead to a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive peace process, ensuring the restoration of the Palestinian people’s rights.
