Qatari Newspapers Highlight Nation’s Progress and Achievements in 2025

Doha: Editorials published in Qatari newspapers today reflected a clear diversity in the issues they addressed, combining development and economic affairs with Qatar's regional and international role, humanitarian files, and the major sporting achievements recorded in 2025.

According to Qatar News Agency, the editorials discussed the State's progress toward achieving Qatar National Vision 2030, highlighting advances in global competitiveness indicators and economic reform, alongside Qatar's expanding role in international diplomacy, conflict resolution, and the promotion of sustainable development.

They also devoted significant attention to developments in the sisterly Republic of Yemen, emphasizing Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) positions calling for wisdom, restraint, and the preservation of Yemen's unity and territorial integrity. The editorials reaffirmed that the security of GCC states is inseparable from Qatar's own security, while stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing crises and containing escalation.

On the humanitarian front, the editorials underscored Qatar's continued support for the Sudanese people amid the ongoing repercussions of war and the deepening humanitarian crisis, outlining the scope of relief and development assistance provided by Qatar throughout 2025, both bilaterally and through active participation in international efforts.

In sports, the editorials highlighted Qatar's remarkable sporting achievements in 2025, including the hosting of major regional and international tournaments, organizational and fan successes, and the qualification of the Qatari national football team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. These accomplishments further reinforced Qatar's status as a global sports hub that integrates athletic competition with cultural and heritage dimensions.

Under the headline "Qatar's achievements in 2025", the English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that, "as 2025 draws to a close, Qatar stands out as a nation making considerable strides in its journey towards Qatar National Vision 2030, a long-term blueprint for sustainable development, economic diversification, and enhanced quality of life."

The newspaper noted that 2025 was marked not only by tangible progress in national competitiveness and economic reform, but also by Qatar's increasingly influential role in international diplomacy, conflict mediation, and sustainable development.

In its editorial, The Peninsula pointed out that Qatar's long-term policies are yielding economic dividends, citing the 2025 Global Competitiveness Report, in which Qatar entered the world's top ten for the first time, ranking ninth globally and fifth in business efficiency. The paper said this achievement reflects the strength of the country's robust economic frameworks, public sector efficiency, and continued investment in infrastructure and institutional excellence.

The Peninsula concluded that 2025 was a year rich in diplomatic and development efforts, stressing that Qatar will continue to play a leading role in advancing peace and development regionally and internationally under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, Al Arab newspaper highlighted in its editorial Qatar's exceptional sporting harvest, noting that the country hosted 84 sporting events during the year, including 15 world championships, 14 Asian tournaments, and six Gulf competitions, in addition to the flagship event, the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, alongside numerous regular domestic tournaments.

It highlighted that the most notable sporting achievement of 2025 was the qualification of the Qatari national football team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, following a 2-1 victory over the UAE at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium during the final round of Asian qualifiers on October 14.

The editorial added that the most prominent regional sporting event of the year was the 11th edition of the Arab Cup, held from Dec. 1-18, which stood out for its exceptional organization, attendance, and media coverage. Total attendance exceeded one million spectators, reaching nearly 1.25 million, while the final match alone attracted 84,517 fans, the highest attendance for a single match in the tournament's history.

Al Arab concluded that these events went beyond athletic competition, evolving into cultural platforms, from the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 and the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 to international tennis, table tennis, squash championships, Formula 1, and the Qatar T100 World Triathlon Championship, successfully showcasing elements of Qatari culture and heritage.
