Qatari Newspapers Focus on Economic Growth and Diplomatic Efforts

Doha: Qatari newspapers highlighted two key topics in their Monday editorials, both locally and internationally. They focused on the national economy and the developments it is witnessing, which support the process of sustainable development. The economy continues to achieve record numbers, reflecting its strength and ability to confront global changes and challenges, especially because it is built on solid foundations, in addition to its flexibility and diversity.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also covered Qatar's diplomatic efforts to support peace and stability on the international stage, noting Qatar's welcome of the Alaska summit and hope that current diplomatic efforts will lead to a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. This stems from Qatar's firm belief that dialogue remains the best option for addressing regional and international crises and conflicts, as well as its firm position calling for a resolution to this crisis through peaceful means.

For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar continues its tireless efforts to build its sustainable and advanced economy on more than one level, as its economic plans are proceeding at an ascending and synchronous pace in all sectors. The country's great successes, especially in the field of foreign trade, cannot be overlooked, with its exports increasing and Qatari products reaching new markets, along with its dominance of global energy markets.

Al-Raya explained that Qatar's foreign trade increased by 1.3% last year, reaching QAR 476.281 billion, compared to QAR 470.224 billion in 2023, marked by an expansion in the number of trade partners and diversification in import and export activities, while Qatar's trade surplus (the difference between total exports and imports) for the year stood at QAR 215.642 billion, according to data from the National Planning Council.

The Qatari economy achieved unprecedented accomplishments over the last period, as pioneering initiatives were launched to stimulate trade, localize industries and encourage exports. These initiatives also strengthened the position of local production in various sectors, and Qatari exports have increased to most countries around the world, in new evidence that economic reforms are beginning to bear fruit, the newspaper concluded.

In turn, Al-Sharq newspaper said the Alaska summit, held between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, opened the door to intense diplomatic activity. The White House is expected to host a crucial and important meeting today between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the participation of a number of European leaders.

The newspaper indicated that this meeting comes amid US optimism about a breakthrough in the Russian-Ukrainian war. It represents an important step that will give the political process further momentum, enhancing hopes for laying the foundations for a new phase of lasting peace, after three and a half years of bringing an end to the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II.

Al-Sharq added that with these rapid developments, the State of Qatar welcomed the Alaska summit and expressed its hope that current diplomatic efforts will lead to a comprehensive and sustainable resolution of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. This stems from Qatar's firm belief that dialogue remains the optimal way to address regional and international crises and conflicts, as well as its firm position calling for a resolution to this crisis through peaceful means.

The State of Qatar, which has been contributing since the outbreak of the war to political efforts and humanitarian mediation, particularly with regard to reuniting Ukrainian and Russian children and families, spares no effort in providing full support to all efforts aimed at establishing peace and strengthening cooperation between countries to achieve global security and stability, Al-Sharq concluded.
