Qatari daily AlWatan said in its editorial that the 111th session of the International Labor conference concluded with widespread acclaim for Qatar’s efforts for its efforts which contributed to the success of this session and the achievement of the desired results, to improve the work environment worldwide and come up with effective recommendations in order to achieve social justice and create decent job opportunities, after Qatar assumed the presidency of the 111the session of the International Labor Conference following its unanimous election by members of the International Labor Organization, for the first time since the organization was established in 1919.
The election of Qatar, represented by HE Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, is an international recognition of the achievements the State has made in various areas of work and development, in terms of measures and initiatives to reach a safe and healthy work environment. The election also confirms the confidence of the international community in the safe work environment in the State of Qatar, and the qualitative leap it has made in developing the work sector, and in its credibility and approach to development in this sector, AlWatan said.
Qatar’s achievements in the labor sector and development, in terms of various measures and initiatives to reach a safe and healthy work environment, and its keenness to activate partnership with international organizations and bodies to improve the work environment and conditions, have contributed to the consolidation of Qatar’s active role in international forums related to the labor sector during the past years and its election as President of the 111th session of the International Labor Conference, which saw a remarkable success thanks to its good management and its full belief in working with partners to achieve the desired goals, AlWatan concluded.
In another context, Qatari daily AlSharq noted Qatar’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack which targeted a high school in western Uganda’s Mpondwe town, and left dozens killed and injured.
The paper underlined that this criminal attack constitutes a setback for international efforts to provide protection for schools and places of education around the world, especially in conflict zones. HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation, has always called for the need to provide protection for school students, especially in conflict areas. On many occasions, Her Highness called for international steps to be taken to protect schools in places of conflict, and has always emphasized the importance of education as a weapon and a lifeline for children to face the consequences of wars and conflicts.
AlSharq highlighted the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution establishing 9 September as the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, which was called for by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, to be a starting point to highlight the plight of more than 75 million children between the ages of 3 and 18 in 35 countries and their urgent need for support in the field of education.
The State of Qatar has made endeavors to provide protection and ensure quality, equitable and comprehensive education for all learners at all levels, especially those who are going through critical conditions, in order to promote a safe and fortified school environment in humanitarian emergencies. However, the attacks on schools still exist in a number of conflict areas, which stresses the need for concerted international efforts to take stricter measures to protect education and criminalize attacks on schools, AlSharq concluded.
On the other hand, English newspaper The Peninsula highlighted Qatar’s preparations to host the Basketball World Cup 2027, noting that a top delegation of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) visited Qatar recently and was left highly impressed with the stateoftheart facilities in the country.
Under its editorial titled “Gearing Up for Exceptional Qatar 2027”, The Peninsula said that the FIBA delegation, headed by its President Hamane Niang, expressed its confidence that Qatar known as the worlds sports hub will host an exceptional edition of the global tournament.
Qatar won the hosting right for the World Cup 2027 at the FIBA Central Board meeting in Manila, Philippines in April. The country was preferred over other candidates with readiness of worldclass competition venues and countrys rich experience of hosting major sports events being the main factors behind the successful bid. The visiting FIBA officials noted that Qatar 2027s compact nature with all the venues located within close proximity would play key role in the tournaments success, the paper said.
Qatar always sets new benchmarks while staging major events, and the FIBA World Cup in four years time is also expected to be a roaring success, The Peninsula concluded.
