Doha: The ongoing Iranian attacks on countries in the region, including Qatar, have become a central focus in Qatari newspaper editorials. The State of Qatar recently sent two identical letters to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, highlighting the latest developments regarding the Iranian assaults on its territory, which have drawn significant attention.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatari newspapers emphasized Qatar's unwavering commitment to ensuring security and stability while supporting dialogue and diplomacy efforts between Washington and Tehran. Despite the aggressive actions, Qatar remains steadfast in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents. The country has reaffirmed its right to respond and take all necessary measures to protect its territory and people.
Al-Raya newspaper highlighted Qatar's rational approach, rooted in international law principles, in addressing the recent Iranian attacks. These attacks included targeting the "Al Rekayyat" tanker near the Strait of Hormuz and launching ballistic missile strikes deep into Qatari territory, resulting in civilian injuries. Instead of resorting to indiscriminate retaliation, Doha strategically chose rules-based diplomacy through the UN and the UN Security Council.
The letters from HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council were not merely formalities. Al-Raya described them as historic documents of condemnation, urging the international community to recognize its political and moral responsibilities.
Qatar not only refuted Iranian violations of the 1949 Geneva Conventions but also invoked UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) to hold Tehran legally accountable for the attacks. This strategic move establishes a deterrence framework affirming Qatar's right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Al-Raya stressed that restraint is a legal strength, enabling Qatar to protect its citizens by lawful means while exposing Iran's actions threatening international navigation and regional stability.
Al-Raya concluded that Qatar's strength lies in the unity of its people, the readiness of its Armed Forces, and its sophisticated diplomacy, which leverages international legitimacy to hold aggressors accountable.
Al-Sharq newspaper echoed these sentiments, affirming that Qatar will not tolerate any sovereignty violations and will take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and citizens. The newspaper detailed Qatar's diplomatic efforts, including the letters sent to HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and HE Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations Zenon Mukongo Ngay, addressing the Iranian attacks.
Al-Sharq stated that these letters are part of Qatar's ongoing strategy to keep the UN Security Council informed about the Iranian aggression. Qatar aims to secure international condemnation, hold Tehran accountable, document violations as official UN records, and apply international pressure to scrutinize Iranian practices.
