Doha: The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) held its ordinary general assembly meeting, chaired by QVA President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari. The meeting brought together board members, heads of volleyball departments from local sports clubs, and a representative from the Qatar Olympic Committee to discuss the future of volleyball in Qatar.
According to Qatar News Agency, the assembly emphasized the need to unite efforts to develop Qatari volleyball and enhance its position at different levels. The meeting reviewed the season's highlights, notably the achievements of the Qatar national beach volleyball team. The duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan were recognized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) as the world's best men's beach volleyball team for 2025.
Team Qatar's performance was also highlighted, with the national team winning 12 international medals, comprising 8 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. The team maintained a strong presence on both continental and regional platforms, winning the zonal championship at the WAVA Men's Club Volleyball Championship and securing the runner-up position in the Asian Cup.
The assembly also highlighted administrative successes, including QVA's representation in leadership roles in several sports organizations, such as the International Volleyball Federation, the Asian Volleyball Confederation, the West Asian Volleyball Association, and the Arab Volleyball Association. These roles reflect the advanced position of Qatari volleyball in international sporting decision-making.
During the proceedings, the assembly confirmed the legal quorum, approved the agenda, and ratified the minutes from the previous electoral general assembly meeting held on November 24, 2024. Discussions included the review of past year activity reports, future projects, development plans, and the approval of final accounts for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025.
At the conclusion, attendees emphasized the importance of continued efforts to develop the sport and enhance its international presence, aligning with the aspirations of Qatari sports and ensuring continued success in various arenas.
