Qatar, Uganda Discuss Strengthening Labour Cooperation

Doha: Assistant Undersecretary for Migrant Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Labour Hamad Faraj Dalmouk and HE Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development of the Republic of Uganda Aggrey David Kibenge engaged in discussions on Wednesday, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of labour.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dalmouk also participated in a regional workshop organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office for East and Southern Africa. The workshop, titled “Knowledge Exchange and Consular Cooperation Workshop,” covered a variety of topics, such as contractual frameworks governing labour in the Gulf, wage protection, working conditions, and the legal and administrative challenges of providing consular assistance during recruitment and deployment. It also emphasized the role of migrant associations and civil society organizations as key partners in promoting fair and safe migration.

Dalmouk highlighted the significance of the workshop as a regional platform that unites representatives from labour and foreign ministries, consular officials, and civil society actors. He pointed out that such exchanges provide an invaluable opportunity to share practical experiences and deepen partnerships in migration governance. The workshop, he noted, reflects the enduring partnership between the State of Qatar and the UN Migration Agency, underscoring the Ministry of Labour’s central role in shaping labour policies, promoting fairness in the labour market, and fostering a model for safeguarding workers’ rights and ensuring decent and safe working environments.

Furthermore, Dalmouk reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to collaborating closely with regional and international partners to enhance cooperative frameworks and exchange best practices. He emphasized that these joint efforts are essential for reconciling labour market needs with the protection of workers’ rights, translating shared aspirations into concrete policies and tangible outcomes.
