Qatar Sends Fifth Identical Letter to UN, Security Council on Iranian Attack

Doha: The State of Qatar has dispatched a fifth identical letter to His Excellency Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and His Excellency Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of March, Michael Waltz. The letter addresses the latest developments concerning the Iranian attack on Qatari territories.

According to Qatar News Agency, this attack represents a blatant violation of Qatar's national sovereignty and poses a direct threat to its security and territorial integrity. The escalation is deemed unacceptable and is seen as a threat to the security and stability of the region.

Her Excellency Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, sent the letter. It highlighted the ongoing attacks targeting Qatari territories and detailed the Ministry of Defense's announcement on Thursday, March 5, 2026. On that day, Qatar was subjected to several waves of missile attacks, including 14 ballistic missiles and four drones launched from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The armed forces intercepted 13 missiles, with the last missile landing in Qatari territorial waters. Additionally, all four drones were successfully intercepted without any casualties.

The letter further explained that damages and losses from the attacks will be assessed by the relevant authorities, who will be kept informed of any developments.

Finally, the letter emphasized Qatar's strong condemnation of the attack and reaffirmed its right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, to protect its sovereignty, security, and national interests. Qatar has also requested that the letter be circulated as an official document of the Security Council.
