Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Good Governance by Hosting COSP11

Doha: Qatari newspaper editorials have shown significant interest in the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11) held in Doha. The event was inaugurated by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, marking Qatar's commitment to promoting multilateral action and good governance, as outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted in its editorial that Doha's hosting of COSP11 is a testament to Qatar's dedication to multilateral cooperation and governance. The conference, hosted by Qatar for the second time, saw participation from over 2,500 officials representing the governments of 192 member states, alongside regional and international organizations, anti-corruption experts, and representatives from the private sector, civil society, and youth groups.

The COSP11 event followed the recognition of the winners of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence (ACE) Award. This award underlined the global efforts to combat corruption and reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to integrity and transparency in governance, both regionally and internationally, as concluded by Al-Sharq.

Al-Watan newspaper echoed similar sentiments, stating that Qatar's hosting of COSP11 underscores its commitment to enhancing governance systems. The paper also highlighted remarks by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that the conference aims to enhance integrity, transparency, and effective anti-corruption policies, which are pivotal in addressing challenges to national stability and development.

In its conclusion, Al-Watan noted Qatar's accumulated experience in organizing international conferences and its reputation for successfully hosting global events. This track record was a key reason for the UN's decision to entrust Qatar with hosting the conference for the second time since 2009. The paper also mentioned the theme of the 10th session held in Atlanta, USA, reinforcing global unity against corruption.
