Doha: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), has entered into a cooperation agreement with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to provide technical support for the Khor Al Adaid Reserve. This collaboration aims to manage the reserve in line with international standards, as it is considered for nomination to the World Heritage List.
According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement was formalized by HE Undersecretary of the MECC AbdulAziz Ahmad Al Mahmoud and IUCN Regional Director for West Asia Dr. Hany El Shaer. HE the Undersecretary emphasized that the agreement is part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to conserve biodiversity and protect ecosystems within Qatar. He highlighted the Khor Al Adaid Reserve's significant environmental value on both regional and international levels.
Al Mahmoud stated that the partnership with IUCN underscores the MECC's intent to leverage international expertise and implement best practices recognized globally in managing natural reserves. This initiative aims to boost the reserve's nomination chances for the World Heritage List.
His Excellency noted that this strategic move aligns with Qatar's environmental protection commitments, the pursuit of sustainable development goals, and the preservation of natural heritage for future generations. It supports the Qatar National Vision 2030 and aims to solidify Qatar's role as a proactive participant in global efforts to safeguard natural heritage.
