Qatar Participates in WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Health Meetings

Cairo: The State of Qatar is actively participating in the 72nd session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, currently taking place in Cairo. The meetings commenced on Wednesday and are scheduled to span three days under the theme “Together for a Healthier Future: Action, Access, and Equity.”

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation is led by HE Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud. The meetings are focusing on a range of significant topics, including reports on pressing public health issues such as health challenges faced by populations in disaster and emergency situations, and addressing noncommunicable diseases in these contexts.

Key discussions are centered around the Regional Strategy to enhance the health and well-being of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The eradication of poliomyelitis and responses to related outbreaks are being addressed, alongside efforts to combat diabetes, a major public health challenge in the Region.

Furthermore, the meetings are exploring the Strategic Framework for the Implementation of the Immunization Agenda 2030 in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and the Regional Strategic Framework for Blood Safety and Availability. Strengthening the nursing and midwifery workforce to advance Universal Health Coverage across the Region is also a focal point.

The discussions include a review of various technical papers, such as setting a regional executive framework and an implementation plan on climate change and health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Additionally, the meetings are evaluating the latest developments in the implementation of the WHO’s Transformation Agenda in the Region.
