Doha: HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah emphasized the significance of Qatar National Day as a vital milestone that highlights the developmental journey of the nation and the accomplishments under HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's leadership.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Minister expressed that the occasion is an opportunity to reflect on national achievements and to reinforce the collective mission towards nation-building and sustainable development. The Ministry of Municipality sees this day as a catalyst to enhance efforts in constructing modern, sustainable cities and providing municipal services that align with societal aspirations and the state's rapid progress.
The Minister highlighted National Day as a time to instill values of loyalty and national identity among future generations, promoting a culture of responsible work and unity. He stressed that the celebration is more than an annual event; it is a reflection of national unity and support for creativity, innovation, and diligent work.
The Ministry embodies national values through programs focusing on institutional excellence, environmental, and community initiatives. It places a strong emphasis on people's well-being, developing green spaces, and pedestrian-friendly pathways that align with the Third National Development Plan (2024-2030), which prioritizes smart and sustainable cities, green building, environmental sustainability, and food security.
Efforts are underway to implement a smart cities strategy and enhance municipal services using modern technologies. The Ministry is also working towards obtaining the Smart and Sustainable Cities standard (ISO 37106) with the World Council on City Data.
In urban sustainability and green building, the Jadara program continues to enhance green standards and encourage energy- and water-saving technologies. The Ministry is preparing the 2025 carbon emissions report to meet Qatar's carbon neutrality goals by 2050.
Food security efforts include climate-smart agriculture projects, modern irrigation systems, organic production, and food waste management aligned with circular-economy principles. The Ministry has also expanded green areas and won the Best Social Responsibility Initiative award for the Home Garden Design initiative.
In public cleanliness and waste management, an integrated national system utilizing artificial intelligence and digital platforms is being developed, aiming for a sustainable operational model. The Ministry has also achieved international recognition by winning the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award and preparing Qatar to host the 2026 Nobel Sustainability Awards.
The Ministry's future plans focus on food security, sustainable city development, emission reduction, and fostering partnerships to promote innovative sustainability solutions.
