Qatar Hosts 25th GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting

Doha: The State of Qatar hosted the 25th meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) on Wednesday, alongside various accompanying meetings and side events. The event was co-chaired by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union (EU), with participation from 32 countries and international organizations. The delegation from Qatar was led by HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab.

According to Qatar News Agency, in his opening remarks, HE the Special Envoy highlighted Qatar’s commitment to being an active member of the GCTF. He emphasized that Qatar’s hosting of the meeting reflects its dedication to fostering a productive environment for international gatherings. His Excellency noted that the meeting presented a significant opportunity for GCTF members and partners to enhance cooperation, align priorities, and direct the strategic planning, initiatives, and projects of the GCTF’s working groups.

His Excellency further stated that counterterrorism efforts in Africa are a priority for Qatar as part of its broader commitment to supporting African nations. Qatar actively contributes to addressing the root causes of violent extremism by promoting peace, stability, and conflict resolution in the region.

Qatar supports various programs through its governmental and specialized bodies, focusing on education, employment, livelihood improvement, and disaster recovery. These efforts underline the importance of multilateral work. His Excellency also highlighted that Qatar is among the largest partners and donors to the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), supporting numerous global programs, particularly those centered on capacity-building and technical assistance in African countries.

HE the Special Envoy reaffirmed Qatar’s active participation in international and regional efforts to combat terrorism, stressing the nation’s unwavering commitment to collective action under the GCTF framework to contribute to global counterterrorism efforts.
