Qatar Foundation Participates in UNHRC Session, Focuses on Family Support and Youth Empowerment

Geneva: Qatar Foundation (QF) and its partners actively engaged in the 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) held in Geneva, addressing critical issues such as family support during conflicts, child protection in the digital age, and youth empowerment in international humanitarian law.

According to Qatar News Agency, QF emphasized Qatar's commitment to empowering women and girls through sports and involving them in designing opportunities and facilities. The Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), a QF member, organized events that gathered international leaders to explore solutions to family challenges amid rapid global transformations and increasing technological reliance.

The QatarDebate Center, also part of QF, facilitated discussions on the role of youth in strengthening humanitarian law, highlighting their capacity as leaders and intellectuals. Additionally, DIFI collaborated with Qatar's UN Mission in Geneva to address family resilience during conflicts, examining how crises impact care, psychological support, and social stability for families.

Dr. Sharifa Noaman Al Emadi, Executive Director of DIFI, and Dr. Ahmed Aref, Director of the Family Research and Policy Department, emphasized the need for evidence-based policies to support families in conflict environments. They advocated for integrated strategies that prioritize family resilience and well-being.

QF also organized a side event with Egypt's UN Mission in Geneva and the World Organization for the Advancement of Women and Children, focusing on protecting children from digital-era harm. Al Emadi stressed the importance of making family welfare a core part of international human rights discussions, particularly concerning protection and social stability.

In collaboration with Qatar and Jordan's UN Missions, QatarDebate hosted a session on youth leadership in international humanitarian law. The event included representatives from diplomatic missions, international organizations, and civil society, alongside global young leaders, to discuss advancing humanitarian law and addressing its challenges.

Abdulrahman Al Subaie, Director of Administration and Strategy at QatarDebate Center, highlighted the importance of involving youth in decision-making processes to influence global issues. QatarDebate Center Ambassador Noor Mohammed Al-Thani noted the shift of young people from crisis followers to influential actors in international deliberations, emphasizing their role in turning dialogue into tangible impact.
