Qatar Engages in GCC Transport Ministers’ Extraordinary Committee Meeting

Doha: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Transport, took part in the 29th extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Transport Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, held via videoconference. The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Ibrahim Al Maadheed.

According to Qatar News Agency, participants in the meeting discussed the implementation of directives from GCC country leaders during the 19th consultative meeting in Jeddah concerning joint GCC projects. The agenda included reviewing topics to enhance cooperation among GCC countries in transportation, such as updates on the implementation of the GCC Railway Project. This included steps and executive measures taken to enhance logistical integration and the progress made in providing additional options for the GCC countries to transport goods and products.

The meeting also addressed the challenges and opportunities faced by GCC countries with regard to integrated projects in the transportation and logistics industry. Discussions included ways to simplify customs and border procedures, activate alternative transportation routes, and enhance logistical connectivity between ports, border hubs, and economic zones. Additionally, the meeting emphasized supporting the use of modern technologies and uniform digital systems to expedite clearance, inspection, and tracking procedures. Several other topics on maritime transportation and ports were also reviewed to enhance GCC integration and improve logistic services and transportation system efficiency.
