Nairobi: The State of Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change took part in the 37th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The event was hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, drawing extensive participation from member states alongside international and regional organizations.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar was represented by Youssef Ibrahim Al Hamar, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs. Al Hamar delivered a statement reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to international environmental agreements, including the Vienna Convention, the Montreal Protocol, and the Kigali Amendment.
Al Hamar underscored Qatar’s accomplishments in phasing out ozone-depleting substances ahead of schedule through national programs and regulatory measures, particularly in industrial, refrigeration, and air-conditioning sectors. He also emphasized the ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance national environmental monitoring systems to track air and water quality, supporting ozone layer protection and sustainable development in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The statement further outlined the ministry’s strategy, which focuses on efficient natural resource management, ecosystem protection, circular economy initiatives, waste management, scientific research, and collaboration with academic and specialized institutions.
Al Hamar mentioned Qatar’s progress in completing the ratification of the Kigali Amendment and reiterated the country’s dedication to supporting the objectives of the Montreal Protocol. He expressed Qatar’s commitment to continuing regional and global cooperation to ensure a safe and sustainable environment for future generations.
