Geneva: The State of Qatar has condemned what it describes as criminal Israeli attacks that have expanded beyond the Palestinian territories to target residential buildings in Doha housing members of Hamas’s political bureau. Qatar asserts that such attacks are a clear violation of international laws and norms, posing a serious threat to the nation’s security and safety.
According to Qatar News Agency, the condemnation was articulated by Her Excellency Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva, Dr. Hend bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah. She delivered Qatar’s statement during the General Debate with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, under item No. 2 of the 60th session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva.
Dr. Al Muftah criticized the Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the extensive destruction of infrastructure, the loss of civilian lives, and the forced displacement of residents. She described these acts as crimes of genocide by the Israeli occupation forces, which violate international laws and disregard international appeals and rulings, including those of the International Court of Justice.
Dr. Al Muftah further emphasized the importance of historical accountability, urging nations to consider how they will justify their inaction and inability to prevent these atrocities to future generations.
In her address, Dr. Al Muftah called on the international community to take immediate and decisive action to pressure Israel into ending its occupation, ceasing its violations against the Palestinian people, and holding those responsible accountable. She reiterated Qatar’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
