Doha: The State of Qatar has expressed confidence that the Political Declaration of the Second World Summit for Social Development, set to be hosted by Doha next November, will provide momentum to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is anticipated to serve as a significant document with a focus on social development.
According to Qatar News Agency, this statement was delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, via videoconference during the high-level Arab regional meeting preparing for the Second World Summit for Social Development.
Sheikha Alya emphasized Qatar’s commitment to promoting comprehensive and sustainable social development, supporting global efforts to eradicate poverty, enhance productive employment, and achieve social inclusion. She highlighted Doha’s readiness to leverage the unique opportunity presented by the summit to affirm political will, consolidate efforts, and announce global commitments and partnerships, which will contribute to achieving significant progress in social development.
She addressed the urgent need for intensified collective efforts in light of current global challenges and their impact on many countries, including Arab nations. Sheikha Alya stressed that Qatar anticipates the summit will accelerate actions towards the 2030 Agenda and reaffirm the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development.
The gathering of world leaders in Doha will tackle major challenges, including ongoing conflicts in various regions. Sheikha Alya specifically pointed to the situation in the Gaza Strip, where ongoing Israeli actions have resulted in severe humanitarian issues and violations of international standards.
She further assured that the contributions from Arab countries in the lead-up to the summit would positively influence its success, advancing social policies that ensure inclusivity and promote resilient and just societies. Qatar looks forward to welcoming guests to Doha, committing to a successful conference that aims to yield tangible results for a better global community.
