Doha: Based on the fraternal relations between the State of Qatar and the Syrian Arab Republic, and a shared aspiration to enhance bilateral cooperation, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani welcomed a high-level Syrian ministerial delegation led by HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Asaad Hassan Al Shaibani. The delegation, which included seven ministers, arrived to foster the solid fraternal relations and bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the meeting, HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates extended greetings from HE President of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmed Al Sharaa to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, expressing his wishes for Qatar’s continued progress and prosperity. The Syrian Minister articulated Syria’s deep appreciation for Qatar’s initiatives and efforts in supporting Syria’s reconstruction, praising Qatar’s steadfast support for the Syrian people.
In response, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs relayed greetings from HH the Amir to HE the President of Syria, wishing him continued health and happiness, alongside progress and prosperity for the Syrian government and its people.
The discussions focused on the bilateral relations between Qatar and Syria, highlighting the deep fraternal ties and a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors of common interest. Key areas identified for expanded collaboration included energy, economy, trade, finance, tourism, communications, information technology, higher education, and development.
Specific initiatives discussed include Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s joint efforts to supply electricity to Syria, settle Syria’s debt to the World Bank, and provide financial support for public sector salaries in Syria for three months. The Qatari side reaffirmed its commitment to Syria’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, supporting the aspirations of the Syrian people for a dignified life within a state governed by institutions and law. It also rejected any attempts to undermine Syria’s national sovereignty.
The Syrian side expressed pride in Qatar’s supportive stance, acknowledging its role at various stages and reiterating Syria’s commitment to respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
