Qatar and Ireland Strengthen Bilateral Ties Through High-Level Meetings

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani engaged in discussions with HE Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense of the Republic of Ireland, Helen McEntee, who is visiting Qatar. The meeting underscores the strengthening of bilateral relations between Qatar and Ireland, focusing on areas of mutual interest including foreign affairs and trade.

According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar expressed its condemnation of terrorist schemes aiming to disrupt public order and threaten the safety of people and property in the Kingdom of Morocco. This condemnation reflects Qatar's ongoing commitment to regional stability and security.

In another significant diplomatic engagement, HE Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani held talks with HE Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Qatar Saeed Abdullah Al Qamzi. The meeting highlights the robust economic and trade relations between Qatar and the UAE.

Furthermore, HE Minister of Commerce and Industry also met with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of the Republic of North Macedonia Timco Mucunski. The meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two nations during the North Macedonian delegation's visit to Qatar.

In a move to enhance human rights governance, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi appointed members to the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law. This decision is part of Qatar's efforts to uphold international humanitarian principles.

HE Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani's meeting with HE Ambassador of the European Union to Qatar, Cristian Tudor, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, reflecting Qatar's commitment to fostering international partnerships.

Additionally, HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani met with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia, Timco Mucunski, further cementing diplomatic relations during the North Macedonian delegation's visit.

The meeting between HE Prime Minister of Mauritania El Moctar Ould Djay and HE Shaheen bin Ali Al Kaabi, Ambassador of Qatar to Mauritania, signified a continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

In a gesture of international military cooperation, HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani received a phone call from HE Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs of France, Catherine Vautrin.

Meanwhile, economic and investment discussions were held as HE Governor of Qatar Central Bank and Chairman of Qatar Investment Authority Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani met with Co-CEO of KKR and Co., Scott Nuttall, during his visit to New York.

In media diplomacy, HE CEO of Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani met with HE Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Qatar, Ashraf Khodjaev, to discuss media cooperation.

In legislative developments, Qatar's Shura Council approved amendments to a draft law on state property and a new traffic bill, concluding its first ordinary session of the second legislative term.

On the religious and technological front, the Ministry of Endowments inaugurated Qatar's first smart mosque, Qais bin Saad bin Ubadah Mosque, in Muaither.

The General Tax Authority announced a new Excise Tax mechanism on sweetened drinks, effective from July 2026, utilizing a Tiered Volumetric Model for taxation.
