Prime Minister of Qatar Discusses Regional Tensions with Swedish Foreign Minister

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received a phone call from HE Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Maria Malmer Stenergard. The conversation focused on the escalating military tensions in the region and their potential impact on both regional and international security.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the call, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister emphasized that the Iranian attack on Qatari territory is a clear violation of Qatar's national sovereignty. He asserted that such actions are inconsistent with the principles of good-neighborliness, which Qatar upholds. Qatar has historically aimed to remain detached from regional conflicts and has facilitated dialogue between Iran and the global community. However, the recent incidents of targeting Qatari territory undermine the mutual trust and agreements that have characterized bilateral relations between Qatar and Iran.

HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister called for an immediate cessation of provocative measures and advocated for a return to the negotiating table. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing reason, wisdom, and diplomatic efforts to address the situation in a manner that safeguards regional security.

HE the Swedish Foreign Minister shared her concerns regarding the developments in the region. She urged all parties involved to practice de-escalation, exercise restraint, and engage in negotiations and diplomatic discussions to avert further instability.
