Gaza city: The Israeli blockade policy continues, impeding the entry of relief aid to the Gaza Strip on a large scale and in a sustainable manner, despite two weeks having passed since the ceasefire took effect, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights said.
According to Qatar News Agency, the center called upon the international community to immediately intervene and ramp up pressure on the Israeli authorities to open all crossings bordering the enclave and allow the flow of life-saving relief aid without delay or selectivity, in order to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the afflicted Palestinians.
The statement welcomed the recent advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), calling on Israel to comply with the implementation of relief programs in the Gaza Strip and facilitate their execution, particularly by UNRWA, without obstructing these programs.
Thousands of trucks are still piling up at the crossings with the enclave, awaiting the consent of the occupation authorities to enter, including 6,000 UNRWA trucks laden with food items sufficient to feed Gazans for six months, the statement highlighted.
The statement further noted that there are also hundreds of thousands of tents and shelter equipment, which will be profoundly needed as winter approaches, amid the suffering of almost 90 percent of Gazans (roughly 2.1 million people) due to severe food insecurity.
The center warned that Gaza’s population is beset by catastrophic living conditions, particularly the displaced, who are languishing in tents and shelters that literally lack the minimum elements of a dignified life.
It noted that hundreds of thousands of them had to flee their homes after the occupation army declared the initiation of a ground offensive on Gaza City and the resumption of the systematic decimation of residential high-rises.
