Ramallah: Palestinian prisoner organizations announced on Monday that the number of Palestinian detainees and prisoners in Israeli occupation jails currently stands at around 9,600, the majority being administrative detainees and those held under arrest.
According to Qatar News Agency, the organizations issued a joint statement indicating that these figures are based on reports from prisoner institutions and data released by the Israeli occupation Prison Service. They highlighted that the reported number does not include detainees held in military-run camps, suggesting that the total number of detained Palestinians could be higher.
The announcement comes in the wake of a recent prisoner and body exchange between Israeli authorities and Hamas, which took place after a ceasefire was reached. This ceasefire, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye, and the United States, was agreed upon in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and implemented on October 10. The exchange was part of the first phase of an initiative led by US President Donald Trump, aiming to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
