Doha: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Tuesday the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to close 6 schools affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Shuafat, Silwan, Wadi Al Joz, and Sur Baher refugee camps in occupied Jerusalem. The ministry said in a statement that this closure deprives hundreds of students of their right to education and attempts to impose the Israeli curriculum on them, harming the educational process.
According to Qatar News Agency, this is a flagrant violation of the immunity and privileges enjoyed by the United Nations and its affiliated headquarters and institutions, and a grave assault on international law and international legitimacy resolutions, which clearly affirm that Jerusalem is an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 and the capital of the State of Palestine.
The ministry stressed that this decision comes within the framework of the systematic incitement campaign practiced by Israel, the occupying power, against UNRWA, which has been clearly evident during the war of extermination, displacement, and annexation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the camps in the northern occupied West Bank.
It also called for intensified international efforts aimed at preserving UNRWA’s mandate and ensuring its continuity until the rights of Palestinian refugees are fulfilled and a just solution is found, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions, especially Resolution 194 and the right of refugees to return to their homes from which they were displaced.
