Doha: One French soldier was killed and three others were injured in an attack targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Saturday while carrying out its duties in southern Lebanon.
According to Qatar News Agency, a UNIFIL patrol was clearing explosive ordnance along a road in the village of Ghanduriyah to re-establish links with isolated UNIFIL positions when they came under small-arms fire from non-state actors. The peacekeeping force confirmed in a statement that one of the peacekeepers succumbed to his wounds, while three others were injured, with two in critical condition.
UNIFIL has condemned this "deliberate" attack and announced that an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
