Nicusor Dan Wins Romania’s Presidential Runoff

Bucharest: Centrist Bucharest Mayor, Nicusor Dan, has won Romania’s presidential election, defeating far-right challenger George Simion in Sunday’s runoff.

According to Qatar News Agency, official results show that Dan secured approximately 54% of the vote, while Simion, the leader of the nationalist AUR party, received 46%. Simion had previously led in the first round earlier this month.

In his victory speech, Dan celebrated the result as a mandate for transformation. “A community of Romanians who want a profound change in Romania won,” he said. “We need to build Romania together irrespective of who you voted for.”

The runoff drew the highest voter turnout in 25 years, with over 10 million Romanians casting their ballots.
