National Human Rights Committee Participates in ANNHRI Conference

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) participated in the two-day Conference of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) organized in Cairo, Egypt, under the theme of: "National Human Rights Institutions Established in Accordance with the Paris Principles: Roles and Challenges, Visions and Aspiration''.

Director of NHRC Administrative and Financial Affairs Department, Hamad Majid Al Marzouqi, presented a work paper in the first session of the conference through which he discussed the best practices NHRC pursues in the context of its work to promote and safeguard human rights in the State of Qatar. He also presented a set of recommendations that would bolster the mechanisms of sharing best experiences, expertise and practices among ANNHRI's member institutions, including collection of practices with evidence; in accordance with the topic for the benefit of institutions, in addition to endorsing fellowship among institutions to transfer expertise among their cadres.

In the context of ANNHRI's General Assembly, Al Marzouqi represented NHRC in the meeting of the executive committee of ANNHRI, where all participants opined to issue a recommendation to ANNHRI's General Assembly to approve the re-registration of the National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights in Libya as member in ANNHRI; in accordance with the recommendation of Doha-based ANNHRI's General Assembly, which came in response to the request submitted by the Head of Libyan Presidential Council as a result of fulfilling the requirements of re-registration based on the statute and internal rules of ANNHRI, along with the duly completed registration formalities.

In addition, NHRC, represented by the Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs Department, participated in the closed meeting of ANNHRI's General Assembly. The meeting approved ANNHRI's reports and upgraded its operational plan to encompass new programs concerning the upgradation of national institutions capabilities through the accreditation process before the Geneva Sub-Committee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).

Many steps and events were adopted that would undergird the course of ANNHRI to provide support to the Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) in Palestine to further counter the violations perpetrated by the Israeli occupation and support the struggle of Arab people in Palestine through countering the occupation until their land is liberated and their independence is regained and establishing the independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
