Muscat Stock Exchange Index Closes Lower

Muscat: Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) general index 30 closed on Wednesday at 5,617.59 points, down by 4.6 points or 0.08 percent, compared to the previous close which stood at 5,622.23 points. The trading value today stood at OMR 24,873,493 comprising a rise by 0.5 percent, compared to the last session, which stood at OMR 24,759,844.

According to Qatar News Agency, the market value went up by 0.109 percent to reach about OMR 31.30 billion, as per a report released by MSX. Meanwhile, HE Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Katherina Reiche, emphasized Qatar’s importance as a partner for Germany. She noted that 20 major German firms participated in a delegation to establish partnerships with Qatari companies, with many more firms expressing interest in collaborating.

The trade exchange underscores the strong partnership between the two nations, facilitated by Germany’s GDP and the projected 5 percent growth of Qatar’s economy. This growth offers significant opportunities for partnership and cooperation, as highlighted by Minister Reiche during a meeting at Qatar Chamber with HE Chairman of Qatar Chamber (QC), Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani.

She added that approximately 100 German firms are exploring IT transformation in Qatar and are eager to participate. The QC hosted a roundtable discussion between the German delegation and Qatari businessmen, focusing on bilateral cooperation, investment opportunities, and the role of the private sector in enhancing trade between the two countries.

Discussions also explored cooperation in sectors such as energy, industry, and IT. HE Sheikh Khalifa emphasized the importance of elevating bilateral economic cooperation and praised Germany’s advanced manufacturing and innovation. Germany’s economy is a core pillar globally, and QC recognizes numerous German firms with technical expertise either as partners or independent entities in significant ventures nationwide.

Qatar, in turn, has become a commercial and industrial hub with strategic infrastructure, aligning with leadership directives to diversify the economy and attract investments. Sheikh Khalifa noted that trade volume between the two nations reached approximately QR 6.6 billion in 2024, with meetings like this one representing steps toward a stronger economic future.

The ongoing dialogue and investment partnerships are expected to open new avenues for cooperation. Sheikh Khalifa acknowledged Qatari investments in Germany as a testament to confidence in the German economy and commended the contribution of German firms in Qatar. QC remains committed to facilitating cooperation between the business communities of both countries.

He urged firms to capitalize on opportunities in manufacturing and advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, clean energy, healthcare, and other sectors. Discussions between business leaders emphasized expanding cooperation and forming commercial alliances in sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and space technology.
