New york: HE Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi affirmed the State of Qatar’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and girls and enhancing their role in the sustainable development process. This announcement was made during her participation in a high-level meeting organized by the United Nations General Assembly to mark the 30th Anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the General Assembly.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency commended the adoption of “Recommitting to, resourcing and accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action,” as the theme of this meeting. She emphasized that the Beijing Declaration serves as a crucial framework for national efforts in women’s empowerment.
Her Excellency highlighted that Qatar prioritizes women’s empowerment at legislative, regulatory, and political levels, contributing significantly to social development. Qatar leads the Arab world with a 63.3 percent rate of female workforce participation, as per World Bank statistics for 2024. Additionally, 67.5 percent of university graduates are female, surpassing the global average.
Addressing policies that balance family and professional life, Her Excellency mentioned initiatives like flexible work options and maternity benefits. She also emphasized the importance of focusing on women’s issues and vulnerable groups amid ongoing global humanitarian crises, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need for international law compliance.
HE Minister Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi called on the international community to support Qatar’s efforts, alongside regional and international partners, in preparation for hosting the Second World Summit for Social Development. This summit aims to shape future directions for social development and promote sustainable development globally.
