Jordan: The Somali army announced today the killing of 18 members of Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabab militant group, during a military operation that took place in the south of the country. Somali news agency Sonna reported today that the operation also led to the destruction of a factory used by the group to assemble weapons and explosives of various kinds.
According to Qatar News Agency, the operation is part of a broader initiative by the Somali government to counter the ongoing threat posed by Al Shabab in the region. The group has been responsible for numerous attacks within Somalia and neighboring countries, causing instability and hindering development efforts.
The destruction of the weapons and explosives factory is seen as a significant blow to the operational capabilities of Al Shabab. The factory was reportedly a critical component in the group's supply chain, providing them with the necessary tools to carry out attacks.
The military operation reflects ongoing efforts by the Somali government and its allies to dismantle the infrastructure supporting militant activities in the region. The Somali army, with support from international partners, continues to engage in operations aimed at weakening Al Shabab's influence and restoring security to affected areas.
