Doha: Japan's two largest airlines said they will raise fuel surcharges on international tickets beginning in July. The carriers, Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA), stated that this increase is a direct response to the continued rise in global fuel prices.
According to Qatar News Agency, the new surcharge rates will be applicable to tickets issued between July 1 and August 31. This adjustment is part of the airlines' routine review process, which occurs every two months. During these reviews, fuel surcharges are adjusted based on fluctuations in oil prices and currency exchange rates.
The decision to implement these increased surcharges follows a previous hike in May. This earlier adjustment was largely prompted by escalating crude oil prices, which were linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The airlines have indicated that these surcharges are necessary to offset the rising operational costs attributed to volatile energy markets.
