Halmahera: A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Indonesia's Halmahera Island on Friday, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
According to Qatar News Agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 127 kilometers, about 58 kilometers west of Tobelo in North Maluku province.
Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) ruled out the possibility of a tsunami following the earthquake.
Indonesia is frequently affected by earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of intense seismic and volcanic activity extending from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific Ocean.
