Lebanon Defense Minister Survives Assassination Attempt

The convoy of Lebanon’s Minister of Defense in the caretaker government Maurice Sleem came under fire on Thursday in Hazmieh, east of the capital Beirut, without being injured.

In a post on X platform after the incident, Sleem said that he is fine and in a safe place, the rear windshield of his car had been shattered by the impact of bullets.

In turn, the media office of the Lebanese Minister of Defense said – in a statement communicated by Lebanon National News Agency – that Maurice Sleem is fine, pointing out that his car was shot by live bullet rounds.

In addition, several Lebanese Parliament members considered what happened to be rejected, condemned, and denounced by all standards, and the army, security forces, and those concerned must clarify it, and the judiciary must open an immediate and urgent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and punish those involved and participants in these events.

The last attempts to target government officials in Lebanon date back to what the former MP and Interior Minister Boutros Harb was subjected to in 2012.
