Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit/ Arab League Secretary-General Stresses Need for total and Immediate Ceasefire

Riyadh, The Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit said this is not the first time that the Israeli entity wages war on the Gaza Strip, however he expressed hopes that this would be the last, stressing the need for a complete and immediate ceasefire in the strip.

During his speech before the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit held in Riyadh today, Aboul Gheit said that since the first day of its occupation of the Gaza Strip, Israel had wished that the strip's residents would disappear, be displaced, or immigrate, so much so that an occupation minister made a statement suggesting that the Gaza Strip should be bombed with a nuclear weapon.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League pointed out that in full view of the entire world, the Israeli occupation has killed so far more than ten thousand civilians, at least half of whom are women and children, in a campaign of ethnic cleansing, genocide, and systematic violence, a sort of violence and bloodshed that would sow hatred for generations to come.

He continued that over a period of an entire month, appeals has been made to world powers and the United Nations Security Council to exempt Palestinian civilians from the horrors of the hideous Israeli retaliatory campaign, with the Security Council's failure to do so time and again, and with some power's insistence on not tying Israels hands, describing its brutal massacres as self-defense.

Aboul Gheit emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, saying that whoever is working towards halting the escalation of the conflict must recognize that it is the Israeli military machine's continued oppression of the people of Gaza that increases the risk of a regional confrontation.

Moreover, the Secretary-General of the Arab League said that all forms of forced displacement of Gaza, West Bank, and East Jerusalem residents, constitute an international crime and blatant violation of international humanitarian law, adding that extremist Israeli forces must abandon their hopes for a second population transfer, something he thought would not actually happen.

Aboul Gheit said that some Western countries, specifically in Europe, have begun to respond to the idea of organizing an international peace conference for a political solution to the conflict based on the two-state solution, expressing support to this approach, and adding that the whole world would like to see such a solution come to fruition, minus the Israeli occupation.
