Doha: Japan's Nikkei share average plunged to a fresh two-month low on Wednesday, amid a decline in the performance of chip-linked shares.
According to Qatar News Agency, the tech-heavy Nikkei was last down 1.49% to 61,434.19, after falling as much as 3.07% and extending the previous session's more-than 4% fall. The index is now down about 15% from its record closing high last month.
In contrast, the broader Topix rose 0.26% to 3,974.03.
Semiconductor equipment maker Screen Holdings plunged more than 17.25%, marking its biggest percentage drop since January 2020. Memory maker Kioxia slumped as much as 13.85%.
On the other hand, Keyence jumped by about 15.42%, video game company Konami gained 12.74%, and construction machinery maker Komatsu climbed by 7.63%.
